Women's Tennis Knocks off Southeastern Louisiana, 4-3

HAMMOND, La. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team notched a 4-3 victory over Southeastern Louisiana Friday afternoon at the Stone Creek and Spa in Hammond, La.
Junior Elja van Berlo won the decisive match at number four singles with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Dadot in helping the Golden Eagles improve to 6-9.
Southern Miss was able to take an early match lead 1-0 after winning two of the three doubles play. SLU won the first match of the doubles at number two when Mia Hagiu and Laura Verges defeated Vroni van Berlo and Alex Bradley in a close match, 8-5.
The Eagles struck back to with Åsa Bengtson and Zoë Lee took an 8-6 win over Morgane Dadot and Nia Schmied at number three. Southern Miss wrapped up the point with Elja van Berlo and Stephanie Dellocono taking an 8-6 over Lions pair Audrey Chelini and Raissa Dias.
Southern Miss recorded back-to-back wins at number five and three singles in gaining a 3-0 advantage. Lee captured her match on court five with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Schmied and Dellocono followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win on court three over Dias.
The Lions got their first point at number six singles when Isabel Brito defeated Shannon Rogers, 7-5, 6-0. Rounding out the singles competition, Vroni van Berlo fell to Chelini, 6-4, 7-5 and Bengtson lost to Verges, 6-4, 6-4.
Southern Miss travels to Jackson, Miss., to play Jackson State on Mar. 31 at 2 p.m.
