Women's Tennis Falls to Richmond, 5-2

RICHMOND, Va. -- Host Richmond University defeated the Southern Miss women's tennis team 5-2 Saturday afternoon.
The Spiders grabbed the doubles point to start the match. Sydney Grant and Joanna Matuszczky teamed to beat Stephanie Dellocono and Moorea Williams 8-2 on court one while Helen Cunningham and Isabel Arana defeated Shannon Rogers and Vroni van Berlo 8-5 at No. 3. Southern Miss' duo of Zoe Lee and Elja van Berlo picked up an 8-3 victory over Alexandra Smyth and Elizabeth Sims on court two.
Richmond picked up singles points at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6 in the win. The Golden Eagles got wins from Vroni van Berlo with her 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 at No. 1. Elja van Berlo collected her eighth win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Sydney Grant at the No. 3 singles.
Southern Miss remains on the road for a match at Southeastern Louisiana, Mar. 25, at 2 p.m.
