Women's Tennis Falls to Lamar, 4-3

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team fell to Lamar, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the USM Tennis Courts.
Southern Miss falls to 3-6.
Lamar took two doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Mariaryeni Gutierrez and Kaltrina Harbuzi defeated Stephanie Dellocono and Vroni van Berlo, 8-2. Natalia Mayagoitia and Diania Mendez knocked off Zoe Lee and Shannon Rogers, 8-0. Southern Miss' Asa Bengtson and Elja van Berlo won 8-4 over Alessandra Pennesi and Helene Czudek.
The teams split the singles matches. Southern Miss got victories from Dellocono, Elja van Berlo and Lee. Dellocono beat Mayagoitia, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7), van Berlo defeated Pennesi, 6-1, 6-2, and Lee knocked off Czudek, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9).
Lamar clinched the match with victories from Gutierrez over Vroni van Berlo, 6-2, 6-4, Harbuzi over Bengtson, 6-2, 6-2, and Mendez over Moorea Williams, 6-1, 6-1.
The Lady Eagles return to action this week when they host Louisiana-Lafayette, Friday, March 4, at 11 a.m. CT.
