IRVING, Texas - Junior defender Caitlin Leumas was named to the All-Conference USA Women's Soccer Third Team today in an announcement from Conference USA.
Leumas is a three-year letterwinner for the Golden Eagles on the back line and has maintained a flawless 4.0 GPA at Southern Miss as a Kinesiotherapy major. She started every game and played every minute this season and has 51 consecutive starts dating back to her freshman year.
The team's defensive star has also played 4794 of a possible 5006 minutes in her career, missing just 212 minutes over the first three games of her freshman campaign.
"Caitlin is very deserving of this award," said coach Scott Ebke. "She has been as consistent on our back line this year as any coach or team could ask for and is very hard to attack against. Our coaching staff along with our players congratulates Caitlin on her award."
The award was also a first for a Southern Miss soccer player since forward Sarah McFadden earned second team honors in 2008.
The squads were voted on by the league's 12 coaches and also included Player and Coach of the year honors. Memphis, C-USA's regular season champion, took the Offensive, Defensive and Coach of the Year awards while Colorado College wrapped up Midfielder and Freshman of the Year.
