HATTIESBURG, Miss. - For the 2011 Southern Miss women's soccer team, the road schedule is just about over as the team travels to Houston for their final two matches away from the Hub City.
Southern Miss (3-9-3, 0-5-1 C-USA) will take on the Cougars of Houston on Friday and the Owls of Rice on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles will need to return to their offensive form after being shutout their previous two matches last weekend.
To do so, they will have to overcome a Rice defense that is allowing less than one goal (0.61) per game and has allowed just nine all season. The going is slightly better against the Cougars who are allowing goals at a 1.93 clip.
Southern Miss' defense has been consistent all season long as junior Caitlin Leumas and Amy Davis have given the squad talent and experience along the back long. They will be tasked with containing Rice's Jessica Howard who is tied for second in the conference in points (1.21 per game) and Houston's Jessica Zavalza who is tied for sixth (1.07).
For the Golden Eagles, Jordan Wagner continues to lead the team in goals (4) and shots (39) while three are tied with two goals.
Kickoff for the Houston game is set for 7 p.m. while the Rice match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
