HATTIESBURG, Miss. - For the second straight year, Southern Miss men's golfer Paul Apyan was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
A total of 119 players in Division I, 55 in Division II and four in NAIA earned the honor.
Apyan, a Chattanooga, Tenn., native is a five-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient, as well as earning Dean's List and Athletic Director Honor Roll on several occasions. In 2007, Apyan was awarded the C-USA Academic Medal.
This past year, the redshirt senior became just the third Southern Miss men's golfer to participate in the NCAA Regionals. He played in 117 rounds over his career and has averaged 74.1 strokes per round, good for fourth all-time at Southern Miss. During the 2009-10 campaign, Apyan averaged 73.4 strokes per round and enjoyed his best finish of the year at the Louisiana Classics, finishing fourth to earn Conference USA Golfer of the Week.
Last season, Apyan tallied four top ten and seven top 20 finishes.
This is the third postseason honor for Apyan, having earned First Team All-Conference USA as well as being named to the CUSA All-Academic Team.
