HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss pitcher Todd McInnis was selected by the Oakland A's in today's portion of the Major League Baseball June Free Agent Draft.
The A's made McInnis the 965th overall pick it the draft with their 32nd round selections.
This season with the Eagles he was 6-5 with a C-USA leading 3.30 ERA while striking out 87 hitters. Over his career at Southern Miss he has won 25 games, which is second place all-time, and stuck out 276 hitters, fifth place on the school's record list.
McInnis was a preseason All-American selection and the 2009 C-USA Pitcher of the Year.
The ball is now in McInnis' glove as he can elect to turn pro or return to Southern Miss for his senior campaign. If he elects to return to the Golden Eagles he will be on track to break about six school records and be listed in the top 10 of nearly every career pitching category.
The deadline to sign a professional contract would be August 17th, after that date he would remain a free agent and reenter the 2011 draft.
