HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss sophomore B.A. Vollmuth was named a third team All-American today by the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Vollmuth was a first team All-Conference USA selection and also earned spots on the C-USA All-Tournament team and the Auburn All-Regional team. In his first full season as a starter, he led the Golden Eagles with a .386 batting average, 91 hits, 76 runs scored, 20 home runs, 17 doubles and 76 RBI. Vollmuth also walked a team-best 43 times and posted a .729 slugging percentage (fourth in C-USA). He closed out the season by hitting 12 home runs in his final 14 games.
He is one of only four players in C-USA to earn All-American Honors this season. Rice sophomore 3B Anthony Rendon and UCF senior OF Chris Duffy were named as first team All-Americans, while Tulane sophomore 3B Rob Segedin and Vollmuth were both named to the third team.
The 2010 NCBWA All-America Team is comprised of teams from 20 different conferences and 11 conference championships teams. The three All-America squads are also made up of 14 conference Players of the Year and 11 conference Pitchers of the Year winners.
Pro-Line Athletic is in its sixth year as a sponsor of the NCBWA. It produces and distributes plaques for National Hitter and Pitchers of the Week during the regular season and extends its award production to include plaques for each member of the Pro-Line/NCBWA All-American team.
Vollmuth joins Scott Copeland as the two All-Americans for the 2010 season thus far. Copeland was selected an All-American by Collegiate Baseball Magazine two weeks ago.
