Baseball Falls in Series Finale at Marshall

CHARLESTON, WV. - Southern Miss managed three runs on only three hits as they fell to Marshall 6-3 in the series finale at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston, West Virginia.
Adam Doleac had two of the three Southern Miss hits and a runs scored while Taylor Walker accounted for the other hit with a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning. Travis Creel scored two of the three Southern Miss runs, reaching on an error and drawing a walk.
Ryan MacNamara got the nod on the bump today and had the best out of his career through the first five innings, allowing just two hits and facing one over the minimum, while striking out six. Then came the sixth inning where he hit a batter, walked another, allowed a two-RBI single and a two-run home run to end his day.
Southern Miss struck for the games first run in the top of the second as Adam Doleac reached on an infield single, stole second and went to third on a throwing error by the Marshall catcher. Freshman Isaac Rodriguez platted Doleac on a RBI groundout to put Southern Miss up 1-0.
The Golden Eagles added their second unearned run of the game as Travis Creel reached on a throwing error by the Marshall third baseman and came around to score on a two-out RBI single through the left side of the infield by Taylor Walker, his 22 two-out RBI of the season.
Marshall rallied to take the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as Kenny Socorro lined a two-RBI single to centerfield off MacNamara and Kurt Lipton hit a two-run home run to end MacNamara's day.
The Herd added to their lead in the bottom of the seventh on back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners then a Collin Cargill wild pitch allowed a run to score.
Southern Miss cut into the Marshall lead in the top of the eighth as Creel drew a lead off walk and came around to score his second run of the game on a wild pitch to make the score 5-3.
Marshall got that run right back with a leadoff solo home run by Victor Gomez in the bottom of the eighth inning of Mandella Mingo.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Oxford to play No. 14 Ole Miss.
