TWIB Notes:
· Southern Miss opens their 97th season of baseball Friday.
· The Golden Eagles have an all-time record of 1,361-1,127-10
· Friday's game also marks the official beginning of the Scott Berry era as he becomes the 13th head coach Southern Miss baseball history.
· Four different Golden Eagles garnered pre-season All- American honors by various publications. Todd McInnis (NCBWA), Collin Cargill (NCBWA), BA Vollmuth (Baseball America) and Kameron Brunty (Ping Baseball)
· The C-USA coaches and Baseball America both selected Todd McInnis as the preseason C-USA Pitcher of the year
· Closer Collin Cargill was selected to the C-USA and the Baseball America preseason All-C-USA team. He was also named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award watch list for the second consecutive season. (He was placed on the watch list midseason in 2009)
· Baseball America also selected Kameron Brunty and Taylor Walker to their preseason all-conference team
· SE Baseball recognized Joey Archer, McInnis, Cargill and Brunty on their annual preseason all-conference teams
The Week's Opponent:
Northwestern State visits Pete Taylor Park for the first time since the 2007 season. The Golden Eagles have faced the Demons on five different occasions with Southern Miss victorious four times.
The Demons feature three players who were voted by the Southland Conference to its 2010 preseason All-SLC baseball teams. Trent Grondin was a first team selection at shortstop while Demon third baseman Chase Lyles and relief pitcher Chad Sheppard were voted in on the second team. Sheppard was also named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year watch list.
Northwestern State finished 2009 at 26-26 with a 18-13 record in the Southland Conference.
In The Polls:
Southern Miss enters the season ranked in all four major polls. Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball Magazine have the Golden Eagles at No. 21. The NCBWA put the Black and Gold at No.22 and the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll has the Golden Eagles at No. 24.

Following the Golden Eagles:
WXHB The Hub, 96.5 will once again serve as the flagship radio station for Golden Eagles baseball in 2009. John Cox is in his 28th year calling Golden Eagles baseball.
Other stations along the Southern Miss radio network will also carry games throughout the season varying by games.
Southernmiss.com will once again stream live stats of all 53 games on a real time basis and live video will be available for all home games and selected road games through Southern Miss All-Access
This Week at "The Pete":
First 100 fans through the gates on Friday, February 19, 2010 will receive a College World Series poster. This is the official College World Series Poster and same poster that was sold in Omaha last season.
Gates will open at 2:00.

Individual game tickets can be purchased through the Pat Ferlise Athletic Ticket Office on West 4th St., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, over the phone at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or online at SouthernMiss.com. The Pete Taylor Park ticket office will open approximately two hours prior to first pitch.
