Baseball Set to Host Carey in Fall Exhibition Game

HATTIESBURG, Miss.- - For the third consecutive year the Southern Miss baseball program will host cross-town William Carey in a fall exhibition game this Saturday at Pete Taylor Park.
Southern Miss, who is coming of their eighth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance and a 2010 Conference USA Championship, finished last season at 36-24 while Carey finished 31-27 and participated in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament at the NAIA level.
The Golden Eagles return 19 players from last season's C-USA Championship team, including six starters in the field and seven pitchers who saw significant action last season.
Returning in the field is the starting outfield of Kameron Brunty, Dillon Day and Tyler Koelling along with Marc Bourgeois who also played a considerable amount last season. On the infield, three starters return in B.A. Vollmuth at shortstop and Mark Ellis at first base as well as DH/1B Adam Doleac.
Other position players returning include catchers Chase Fowler and Jared Bales, infielders Travis Creel and Isaac Rodriguez along with outfielder Justin Diliberto.
On the mound Southern Miss returns their ace in Todd McInnis, who will anchor the rotation for the third consecutive season, and closer Collin Cargill, who is only three saves away from tying Daniel Best's career saves record at 25.
Also returning on the bump for the black and gold are sophomores Jay Myrick and Geoffrey Thomas, redshirt-sophomore Paxton King, redshirt-junior Matt Warren and senior Seth Hester
The 2011 roster will be rounded out with 16 new players, including five junior college transfers and 11 true freshmen.
First pitch for the exhibition game will be at 2:00 p.m. and admission will be $5 per person. Tickets are available now at the Ferlise Center Box Office or at The Pete Taylor Park ticket office day of the game. Gates at Pete Taylor Park will open at 1:00 p.m.
