Golden Eagle Golfers Travel to Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's golf team returns to the golf course in one of the most prestigious collegiate tournaments in the country when they take part in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.
The annual tournament takes place on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 11-12 at Old Overton Country Club in Vestavia Hills, Ala. The par-70 course will play to a yardage of 7,204 yards. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 holes Tuesday. Tee times start at 8 a.m. each day.
The Golden Eagles are making just its second appearance in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, and its first since the inaugural tournament in 1986.
Southern Miss will be joined in the field by six teams that are ranked in Golfweek's Top 100, including Florida (1st), Alabama (6th), Auburn (23rd), SMU (64th), Memphis (83rd) and UNLV (97th). Joining them in the tournament are Georgia State, Mississippi State, Samford, South Alabama and UAB
The Eagles are coming off a fourth-place finish at the Squire Creek Invitational. Redshirt junior Derek Plucienski, who is the 72nd ranked individual in the country, earned his third straight top ten finish, tying for sixth-place. In nine rounds this year, the Slidell, La. native is averaging 70.0 strokes and has five rounds under par.
