Southern Miss Leads Lady Eagle Classic Heading Into Final Round

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's golf team placed five golfers in the top ten, as it leads the Lady Eagle Classic by nine-strokes heading into the final round. The tournament is being played at Canebrake Country Club.
The team shot an opening round 11-over par 295.
Junior Samantha Holt fired a one-over par 72 to sit one-shot back of the lead in second place. Junior Rebecka Nilsson and freshman Sandra Sohlberg, playing as an individual, are tied for third after shooting two-over 73's.
Juniors Amy Roberts and Clara Viladomiu tied for sixth-place, each closing with a four-over par 75. Redshirt freshman Ashley Joubert and senior Heather Golden, playing as an individual, are tied at 40th-place. Both golfers shot a first round 84. Senior Kate Burns, also playing as an individual, shot an 88 to sit in a tie for 88th-place
Belmont's Laurie Warren holds in the individual lead after firing an even-par 71. She was the only golfer to finish even par or better. Holt is in second-place, and Nilsson and Sohlberg, along with Nina Offenberg of South Alabama, are in third-place.
Southern Miss leads the team overall competition. Belmont is in second with 304 strokes. South Alabama finished with 308 strokes to sit in third, while Nicholls State is in fourth with 314. West Florida and Jackson State are tied for fifth place with 315 strokes.
McNeese State is in seventh-place with 325 strokes, followed by DePauw (326), Memphis (328) and Kentucky Wesleyan (342).
The tournament finishes tomorrow with the final round. Play begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
