Southern Miss Wins Lady Eagle Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's golf team placed five golfers in the top five, leading it to its second consecutive Lady Eagle Classic victory. The tournament was played at Canebrake Country Club.
The team shot a final round 302 to win the tournament by 15 strokes.
Junior Samantha Holt fired a one-over par 72 to earn second place, one shot back of individual champion Lorie Warren. Junior Amy Roberts took fourth-place after shooting a final round two-over 73. Junior Rebecka Nilsson earned fifth-place, closing with a five-over 76.
Freshman Sandra Sohlberg tied for 12th-place after shooting a final round 82. Junior Clara Viladomiu and redshirt sophomore Ashley Joubert each closed with 81's. Viladomiu tied for 15th-place and Joubert tied for 34th. Seniors Kate Burns and Heather Golden, both playing as individuals, tied for 40th-place. Burns shot a final round 80, while Golden finished with an 84.
Belmont's Laurie Warren won the individual championship after firing a one over-par 72. Holt took second-place, and Jennifer Sells of Jackson State earned third at five-over par.
Southern Miss won the team overall competition, finishing 29-over par. South Alabama finished second at 44-over par. Belmont was 48-over to take third, while Jackson State took fourth, finishing 55-over. West Florida and Nicholls State tied for fifth place at 65-over par.
McNeese State earned seventh-place at 76-over par, followed by Memphis (+83), DePauw (+87) and Kentucky Wesleyan (+121).
The Lady Eagles return to the links next week when they participate in the Lady Rebel Invitational, Apr. 3-5, hosted by Ole Miss.
