Southern Miss Finishes Second at USM Open

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - For the first time this year, the Southern Miss women's cross country team failed to win a meet, finishing second at the USM Open held at Tatum Park.
The Lady Eagles placed four runners in the top ten, finishing 22 points behind Nicholls State.
Krista Moylan was Southern Miss' top finisher, taking fifth-place with a time of 18:44.08. Stephanie Ledgerwood took sixth-place, finishing in 18:45.37. Jocelyn Lockhart earned a seventh-place finish with a time of 18:55.54, while Zuna Portillo took eighth in 19:00.34.
Kelly Rooney finished in 17th-place finishing with a time of 22:03.37, while LaSheika Dinkins rounded out the scoring for the Lady Eagles, finishing in 24:14.66 in 30th-place.
Dakota Goodman was the top female finisher in a time of 18:37.54.
Xavier (La.) won the men's competition, while Xavier's Mark Dotson won the men's 4 mile run in a time of 22:38.64.
The Lady Eagles will head to Houston, Texas for the Conference USA Championship, Oct. 31, hosted by Houston.
