Golden Eagles Announce 2026 Cross Country Schedule

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Cross Country head coach Nick Gibson today announced the program's 2026 meet schedule. The Golden Eagles will travel to four regular season meets before beginning the postseason at the Sun Belt Conference Women's Cross Country Championship in Foley, Alabama, and culminating on Nov. 21 at the NCAA National Championships.
"I'm really excited about the upcoming season," said Gibson. "We bring back a strong core group of all-conference runners and were also able to bring in some key new pieces to our team. I know our ladies eager build off of our finish from last year."
Southern Miss opens its 2026 slate on Friday, Sept. 4, in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the Battle for New Orleans. The meet, co-hosted by LSU New Orleans and Tulane, will be held at Lake Oaks Park. Two weeks later, Southern Miss heads to Tallahassee, Florida, for the Florida State Cross Country Invite on Friday, Sept. 18. Hosted by the eponymous Seminoles, the meet takes place at Apalachee Regional Park.
Saturday, Oct. 3, sees the Golden Eagles take on the 38th Annual Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The race is set for 11 a.m. in Agri Park and hosted by both the Chile Pepper Board and Arkansas. Southern Miss ends its regular season at the Alabama Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Friday, Oct. 16. Hosted by Alabama, the race course is laid out at the Crimson Tide's Harry Prtichett Running Course.
The 2026 Sun Belt Conference Women's Cross Country Championship is set for Friday, Oct. 30, at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve in Foley, Alabama. Southern Miss looks to take this year's title after finishing second last season and returning 11 members of its 2025 squad.
From there, Southern Miss looks to continue its advance in the NCAA postseason beginning with the NCAA South Regional Championship at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Florida, on Friday, Nov. 13. Qualifiers at that meet will then advance to the 2026 NCAA Women's Cross Country Championship on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Indiana.
