Golden Eagle Cross Country Claims Second at Battle for New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – Aiden Harrand earned a spot on the podium and led Southern Miss' afternoon at the 4,000-meter course at Lake Oaks Park. Two Golden Eagles finished in the top 10 with all five scoring runners finishing in the top 25.
Tulane took the women's crown with a near-perfect sweep of the top five, save for Harrand's third-place finish. The Green Wave posted 18 points with a first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth-place finish to post an average time of 14:05. Petra Dos Santos led the race with a first-place time of 13 minutes, 47.9 seconds.
Southern Miss finished second and was led by Harrand's 14:04.0 time. Emme Bates finished seventh overall with a 14:19.8 mark and was closely followed by 11th-place Corinne Cory (14:31.8) and 13th-place Addison Rainey (14:40.9). Cadence Lapp finished off the scoring portion of the Golden Eagles with a 15:05.3 mark, earning 17 points for Southern Miss.
Eleven Golden Eagles finished the race with Indy Grajalez (15:27.8) claiming 26th, Olivia Smith (15:31.0) coming in 28th, Presley Miller (15:44.2) finishing 32nd, Lexi Cooper (15:46.5) finishing 33rd, Hayley Datema (15:53.7) crossing 35th and Sophie West (18:53.0) claiming 68th. Southern Miss total 51 points and an top five average time of 14:33 and total time of 1:12:42.
A total of 89 runners finished the meet with 10 teams competing. Southern Miss beat out LSU, New Orleans, South Alabama, Nicholls, Loyola New Orleans, Southeastern, Southern and Dillard in the meet. Tulane and LSU were ranked third and fourth, respectively, in the USTFCCCA South Central Top 15 entering the weekend.
