Bowden and Conn Pick Up Additional Post Season Awards

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Golden Eagles top two pitchers from the 2008 season each received two additional post season honors today.
Ping Baseball selected closer Tyler Conn as a first team All-Ping and starting pitcher Barry Bowden as second team All- Ping. In only the second year for the awards, Bowden and Conn become the first Golden Eagle players to be recognized nationally by Ping Baseball.
The All-American selection by Ping Baseball is the second for both Bowden and Conn this season. Bowden was a third team All-American selection by Baseball America while Conn was selected a first team All-American by the College Baseball Writers.

Also, The American Baseball Coaches Association selected both players as second team Rawlings All-South Region. At least one Golden Eagle has been named to the All-South Region team every season since 2002.
Bowden was a first team All Conference-USA selection this season, was named C-USA pitcher of the week three times and national pitcher of the week twice in the same week by two different publications.
He was 8-3 with a 2.12 ERA this season recording 78 strikeouts while walking only 22 and limiting opposing hitters to a .188 average.
Though he was not taken in the 2008 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft he was signed to a free agent contract by the Kansas City Royals.
Conn, also a first team All-C-USA selection, led the NCAA with his 18 saves this season and was 1-0 with a 1.72 ERA while striking out 42 batters in 36.2 innings of work. He was the anchor of the Southern Miss bullpen that was 36-1 on the season when leading after six innings.
He was drafted in the 14th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Detroit Tigers.
Both players have reported to their new minor league baseball teams which opened their seasons on Tuesday.
