PDF BOX SCORE: MARSHALL AT SOUTHERN MISS
HATTIESBURG, Miss.- - The Southern Miss soccer team dropped their second consecutive game with a 4-0 loss against Marshall Sunday afternoon at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
"We were out coached today in every phase of the game, simply put," head coach Scott Ebke said. "I have to do a better job in preparing our team for future games."
Marshall (4-4-4, 2-2-0 C-USA) took control of the game from the beginning scoring their first goal in the 11th minute as Rebecca Voss converted off a corner kick.
The Herd struck again in the 22nd and 30th minutes for a 3-0 lead.
The three goals was the first time this season that Southern Miss keeper Holly Cox has surrendered more that two goals in a game. Cox would not return in the second half as she was replaced by true freshman Hannah Vanderboegh, who saw her first career minutes.
Vanderboegh allowed one goal and recorded five saves in the second half. Marshall scored their final goal in the 54th minute for a 4-0 lead.
"You have to give credit to Marshall they did an excellent job finishing their chances today," Ebke added.
Marshall outshot the Golden Eagles 24-9 in the contest with the Herd taking nine shots on Goals to Southern Miss' one.
Southern Miss (5-6-1, 1-3-0 C-USA) appeared to break the shutout in the 88th minute as Sarah DeFatta found the back of the net from inside the box, but the Golden Eagles were called for offsides to keep the Herd shutout alive.
The Golden Eagles will continue C-USA play this weekend as they travel to Colorado College and UTEP.
"We will be at practice this week working hard for two great opponents on the road this weekend," Ebke said.
