Two Men's Golfers Place at Mississippi State Amateur

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss golfers Rocky Cleland (Hattiesburg, Miss.) and Tyler Sparks (Belmont, Miss.) each placed at the 72-hole Mississippi State Amateur played last week at the Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison.
Cleland, a rising junior, tallied rounds of 77, 70, 75 and 80 to earn a 16th-place tie with a 302 stroke total, while Sparks, a rising sophomore, collected circuits of 74, 80, 77 and 75 to end at 306 and in 37th place.
The state amateur is open to male amateurs that are bona fide residents of the state of Mississippi for at least 60 days prior to the event's first round. Entrants must have a certified USGA Handicap Index of 7.0 or lower. All players must conform to the USGA Rules of Amateur Status as specified in the USGA Rules of Golf. This year's field size was limited to 156 players and the field was cut to the low 60 players after 36 holes of play (plus ties).
