HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss shot a final-round 295 to finish the two-day, 54-hole Rio Pinar Intercollegiate in sixth place at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla., Tuesday.
Redshirt freshman Paul Apyan (Chattanooga, Tenn.) led the way for the Golden Eagles by posting a final-round 76 to finish with a 221 and a 25th-place tie. Senior Joel Myrick (Hattiesburg, Miss.) shot a third-round 75 to place tied for 33rd with a 222 total. Sophomore Rocky Cleland (Hattiesburg, Miss.) and freshman Alex Park (Ithaca, N.Y.) each finished with a stroke total of 223 and a 41st-place tie, after firing a 78 and 74, respectively, in the final day of action.
Junior Kyle Ramey (Paducah, Ky.) shot a low round of 70 in his final circuit to post a 224 overall total and a 48th-place tie.
Brett Myers of Tulsa shot an eight-under 208 in the two-day tournament to win the individual title, while Chattanooga captured the team crown with an 862.
Following Chattanooga in the team scoring was Tulsa (863), Ole Miss (872), Louisville (876), Texas-Arlington (879), Southern Miss (880), South Alabama (881), Wichita State (882), Ohio State (883), USF (886), Mississippi State and UNC Wilmington (887), Furman (894), Missouri (895), Memphis and Mercer (906), Georgia Southern (909) and Kansas State (917).
The Golden Eagles return to action at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate at the Carter Plantation in Hammond, La.
