Men's Golf Finishes 15th at Scenic City Invitational

Hattiesburg, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's golf team tallied a final-round score of 323 to finish 15th in the 17-team Scenic City Invitational Tuesday afternoon at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn. The tournament was hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
The Golden Eagles completed their 54-hole, two-day tournament by shooting their highest team round of the event Tuesday to finish with an overall stroke total of 946.
Redshirt freshman Paul Apyan, who hails from nearby Chattanooga, posted the Golden Eagles low round of the day with a 74 to finish the event with a 231, 15-over-par, notching the best finish for a Southern Miss player in a 33rd-place tie. Senior Joel Myrick (Hattiesburg, Miss.), who posted the best rounds for Southern Miss Monday, fired an 11-over, 83 in the final 18 holes to finish at 233 (plus-17) to tie for 39th place.
Junior Kyle Ramey (Paducah, Ky.) added an 81 in the final circuit to post a three-round score of 236 (plus-20) and tie for 57th place, while freshman Tyler Sparks (Belmont, Miss.) tallied a 13-over, 85 to finish at 252 (plus-36) for the tournament and hold an 86th-place tie. Sophomore Rocky Cleland (Hattiesburg, Miss.) fired a final round of 89 to finish a plus-38 total of 254 to hold 89th place.
UAB's Garrett Osborn finished with a three-round score of one-over 217 to win the individual medalist honors. Osborn bested Middle Tennessee's Rick Cochran by two strokes to win the title.
Charlotte won the team title by firing two sub-300 round scores en route to an 890 and a nine-stroke victory over second-place team Middle Tennessee (899). Mississippi State (901) finished third, followed by UAB (907), Memphis (910), Ole Miss (912), Chattanooga (914), Texas-Arlington (921), Louisiana Tech (931) and Southeastern Louisiana (931), Rice (937), Furman (939), Mercer (940), Virginia (942), Southern Miss, South Alabama (947) and Francis Marion (948.).
The Golden Eagles return to action Sept. 26-27, when they travel to Newport, R.I., for The Adams Cup Invitational. The event will be held at the Country Club of Newport and hosted by the University of Rhode Island.
