Southern Miss redshirt freshman Paul Apyan (Chattanooga, Tenn.) fired a final-round 69 to finish tied for 10th in the Sam Hall Intercollegiate being played here Tuesday at Canebrake Country Club and hosted by the Golden Eagles.
Apyan finished the 54-hole event at the par-71, 6,964 yard course, by posting an even-par 213. Freshman Alex Park (Ithaca, N.Y.) was next as he posted his first sub-par score of 70 to finish at 218 and a 33rd-place tie.
Senior Joel Myrick (Hattiesburg, Miss.) shot a final-round 73 to finish at 220 and a 41st-place tie, while freshman Wes Carter (Birmingham, Ala.) came in 62nd after tallying a 77 in the final circuit to end at 238 total strokes. Junior Kyle Ramey (Paducah, Ky.), who withdrew from the second round yesterday, posted a 76 in his final round. He did not accumulate a total score.
Two Golden Eagles, freshman Tyler Sparks (Belmont, Miss) and sophomore Rocky Cleland (Hattiesburg, Miss.), shot rounds of 70 and 75, respectively, to both finish tied for 24th with a 216 total score.
Justin Fetcho of USF shot the lowest round of the event - a five-under 66 - to capture the individual championship with a 205 stroke total.
UNC Greensboro won the team title by notching a team-low 278 to finish at 845 and beat Rhode Island (287 - 850) by five strokes. Following URI in the final team scoring was USF (280) at 851, Middle Tennessee (288) at 853, Austin Peay (292) and Louisiana Tech (284) at 855, New Orleans (287) at 863, Louisiana-Monroe (285) at 866, Jacksonville State (288) at 868, Troy (293) at 874, Arkansas State (295) at 882 and Southern Miss (288) at 885.
The tournament ends the fall portion of the slate for the Golden Eagle men's golf team.
