Southern Miss' Dennis To Compete in Southern Amateur Championship

HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? Southern Miss men's golfer Danny Dennis is set to compete in the 98th annual Southern Amateur Championship, Wednesday through Saturday, at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn.
Dennis qualified for the prestigious event earlier this summer and will compete against standout amateur golfers from throughout the United States. The event is sponsored by the Southern Golf Association.
The Collierville, Tenn., native recently completed his sophomore season with the Golden Eagle men's golf program and finished the season with a scoring average of 74.1 in the spring -- second only to Ben Snow's scoring average of 73.9. Dennis will tee off at 2 p.m., on Wednesday and at 9:10 a.m., on Thursday.
Former winners of the Southern Amateur include current PGA golf standouts Mark Brooks, Justin Leonard and Len Mattiace. The winner of this year?s Southern Amateur will earn an exemption into the PGA Tour?s Bay Hill Invitational in 2005.
