Off The Tee, Final Day, at The Beau Chene Intercollegiate
Day 4, the final round, February 25, 2003
We won! Finally, it has been almost a decade since the Golden Eagles have won on the road. We definitely came to play today, capitalizing when we needed to.
We took our revenge on Southeastern Louisiana after they won our home tournament. They are a great team and played well this week, but it was our time to win.
Some days, you just know it is your day. Matt Wofford experienced that when he hit his ball to the right on the 18th hole, and it bounced off a house and came back in bounds.
Shane Rushing hit the cart path on the 7th hole and it hit a tree and bounced back in the fairway. There are times when the ball bounces your way, and that is when you have to take advantage of the situation. The good definitely outweighed the bad this week.
We were in the lead group today as we have been a lot this year. Our experience in the past helped us to victory today. It seemed like we got off to a slow start this morning, but we finished strong on the last few holes. We shot even-par 288 today, which was good enough to win. I thought coming into today that we would have to shoot really low to win, but the conditions today were not as good as the 36-hole day.
The van ride home is always a lot more fun when you have played well. Everyone is in a good mood, and we can?t wait to get home. After playing three tournaments in a row, we are glad to have the weekend off. That gives us time to regroup and get ready for the next tournament at Lafayette.
Keep an eye out for the Golden Eagles because I have a good feeling this won?t be the last road win this season.
