Golden Eagles Finish 11th In Coastal Carolina Invitational
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Southern Miss men's golf team improved with each of three rounds played in the Coastal Carolina University Invitational Golf Tournament that concluded here Tuesday, but still finished in 11th place in the 17-team field, with an 899 team total.
Coach Steve Johnson's team posted a 309 in the first round Monday, a 301 in the weather-delayed second round that was completed today, and an even better one-over-par 289 on the final round.
Washington State led from the first round and finished at 289-292-280--861, 18 shots in front of runner-up Southern Methodist, 303-289-287--879. Virginia Tech (303-292-287--882), host Coastal Carolina (299-289-295--883) and Furman (299-294-294--887) round out the top five.
Washington State's Dustin White claimed medalist honors with a 12-under-par 68-69-67--204 total, seven shots in front of Virginia Tech's Brendon DeJonge (71-73-67--211). Southern Miss' Tim Yelverton finished in sixth place at one-under-par 72-73-70--215.
Other Golden Eagle players and their scores, include: Michael Soroka in a tie for 45th at 77-78-72--227, Matt Wofford in a tie for 52nd at 82-75-72--229, Shane Ruffin in a 60th place tie at 81-76-75--232 and Jake Pasch in a tie for 66th at 79-77-78--234.
Southern Miss plays next in the Louisiana Classics Invitational in Lafayette, La., March 10-12.
