Eagles Finish 12th in Louisiana Classics Golf Event
LAFAYETTE, La. -- The Southern Miss men's golf team posted a 302 final round team score over the par-72 Oakbourne Country Club course here Tuesday, finished the 54-hole event at 891 and maintained the same No. 12 position the Golden Eagles held going into the final round.
Head Coach Steve Johnson's team finished the event at 292-297-302--891, a stroke behind Memphis and only two shots out of the top 10.
Southern Methodist finished at 291-282-291--864 to maintain first place and earn a nine-shot victory over a Tulsa team that used a final round 289 to move from fifth to second. Baylor (291-296-286--873) finished in a tie for second, and Texas-San Antonio (287-294-294--875) and Texas A&M (287-292-299--878) round out the top five.
SMU's Jerome Theunis backed Monday's pair of 70s with a one-over-par 73 today for a 3-under-par 213 total and a one-shot victory over Baylor's Ryan Baca (69-74-71--214). Seven players finished the event at par or better.
Southern Miss' Jake Pasch shot 71-77-73--221 to lead the Golden Eagle team that plays next in the Arkansas State Indian Classic in Jonesboro, Ark., April 14-16. Other USM players and their scores include Matt Wofford (78-74-71--223), Shane Ruffin (70-78-78--226), Tim Yelverton (76-74-80--230), and Michael Soroka (75-72-83--230).
