Southern Miss Holds Off Gardner-Webb, 1-0
Shreveport, La. -- Despite taking only one shot in the second half, Southern Miss used a first-half tally to defeat Gardner-Webb, 1-0, Friday night at Cargill Park.
The Lady Eagles broke on the scoreboard in the 42nd minute when Leila McReynolds took a pass from goalkeeper Leslie Schoeplein and went the entire length of the field for the goal.
Southern Miss dominated the action the entire first half, outshooting Gardner-Webb, 13-1. The Bulldogs did not earn a shot on goal until the 74th minute of the game, but put pressure on Southern Miss the last 15 minutes of the game.
Hilary George kept the Bulldogs close throughout the match with eight saves, while Schoeplein needed only one save to earn the shutout.
