Charlotte Edges Southern Miss Soccer, 1-0
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? Southern Miss and Charlotte dueled to a scoreless for three-fourths of the match, but it was the 49ers who emerged victorious in the end, edging the Lady Eagles, 1-0, in Conference USA soccer action Friday at the USM Track and Soccer Complex.
Charlotte's Jennie Leeder scored in the 70th minute of the match, converting on an assist from Tiffany Ross and Megan Terlip.
In the match, the 49ers (5-2-1, 3-0 in C-USA) outshot Southern Miss, 19-10. Senior forward Claire Rea led the Lady Eagles (5-3, 0-3) with three shots.
Sophomore goal keeper Leslie Schoeplein had a season-high nine saves in the loss.
Jenn Howell picked up her 12th career shutout for Charlotte, setting a school record.
The Lady Eagles return to action Sunday as they host East Carolina. Kickoff for the match is set for 1 p.m. at the USM Track and Soccer Complex.
