Southern Miss Golfers Rank Seventh at UL Monroe
MONROE, La. ? The Southern Miss men?s golf team finished the first day of the ULM/Fredmarx Invitational ranked seventh, shooting 301-296 -- 597, at the Bayou DeSaird Country Club.

Tim Yelverton leads all Eagles after shooting 73-73 -- 146, tying for 13th in the individual standings. Shane Rushing is tied for 26th, scoring 76-73 -- 149 on the day.

Justin Emil (75-77 -- 152) and Chris Speight (78-74 -- 152) share 33rd, and Michael Soroka is tied for 38th with 77-76 -- 153.

Lamar owns a 24-stroke lead after recording a team score of 287-270 -- 557 (19 under). Tulane ranks second with 292-289 -- 581, and UAB holds third place with 292-292 -- 584.

Lamar's Mark Cooper leads all individuals with nine-under 71-64 -- 135. His teammate Chris Stroud ranks second, carding 72-67 -- 139.

The final round of the tournament, hosted by Louisiana-Monroe, will be held tomorrow morning.
