Virginia Takes First Round Lead at Seminole Intercollegiate
Intercollegiate at the Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club Course to pace the
University of Virginia to a first day lead with a 573. Florida State, the
host school, stood tied in sixth place with Southern Miss, with a 602. Play
continues Wednesday.
Southern Miss finished first round play in a tie for sixth in the 18-team
field with a 602 team total after the two rounds. Tim Yelverton led the way
for the Eagles with a 71-73--144, good enough for sixth place and six strokes
off the lead in the medalist race. Teammates Justin Emil (77-74) tied for
32nd with a 151 total, Matt Wofford (76-78) tied for 49th with a 154 total,
Jake Pasch (79-76) tied for 55th with a 155 total, and Chris Speight (81-76)
tied for 67th with a 157 total.
Marino of Virginia and Dustin Bray of North Carolina shot an opening round
70, but Marino took a four-stroke lead over North Carolina's Rob Simmons,
after shooting 68 in the second round.
