Southern Miss Inks Final Baseball Recruit of Early Signing Period
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss Baseball Coach Corky Palmer has announced the signing of Chris Rapp, a 6-2, 185-pound, left-handed pitcher from Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas, to a letter of intent for the 2002-03 academic year.
"Chris is a left-handed pitcher, who can throw three pitches for strikes, a fast ball, curve and his best pitch, a changeup," Palmer said. "He comes from a program that plays in a very strong junior college league in Texas. He has good tools and should be able to come in and help us immediately."
As a freshman at Paris in 2001, Rapp was 7-4, allowing 80 hits in 78 innings, striking out 60 and walking 24. He pitched five complete games and opponents hit .290 off of him. He was a two-year letterwinner at North Mesquite High School over his prep career.
He played two years for the Texas Warriors and one year with the Mesquite All-Stars during recent summers. He pitched the championship game, helping the Warriors win the Triple Crown World Series. As a member of the All-Stars, he helped them become the first team from North Texas to make it to the Pony Baseball World Series. His final year, the Warriors finished third at the Triple Crown World Series.
Rapp selected Southern Miss over Louisiana Tech. He is the son of Michael and Shirley Rapp.
