Southern Miss Soccer Falls Short to Houston, 2-1
HOUSTON, Texas ? A penalty kick in the first half proved to be the deciding goal as the Southern Miss Lady Eagles fell to Houston, 2-1, in a Conference USA match on Friday.
Nikki Hawkins converted on a penalty kick past Southern Miss keeper Anna Snyder in the 15th minute of play.
That score stood until the second half, as Houston (6-8-1, 4-4) extended the lead off Nicole Aubuchon's goal in the 63rd minute of play. However, the Lady Eagles (8-6, 2-6) answered 50 seconds later as Tricia Wiles converted on an assist from Katie Randolph to put Southern Miss on the board.
Snyder and Leslie Schoeplein combined for 10 saves in the loss.
Houston out-shot the Lady Eagles, 18-8 in the match.
Southern Miss next hosts TCU in the final home match of the season on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the USM Track and Soccer Complex.
