Southern Miss Soccer visits Houston, Hosts Final Home Match
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The Southern Miss women's soccer team enters the final three matches of the season, with two taking place this weekend.
The Lady Eagles (8-5, 2-5 in C-USA) travel to face Houston (5-8-1, 3-4) in a Conference USA match at 7 p.m. Friday before returning home to host its final home contest of the season, Sunday at 1 p.m., against TCU (7-8, 3-4) at the USM Track and Soccer Complex.
Southern Miss split a pair of matches last weekend, losing to UAB, 3-1, on Friday and coming from behind to defeated South Florida, 2-1, on Sunday. In the matches, junior forward Katie Adams had two goals, including the game-winner over South Florida. Junior midfielder Leila McReynolds netted the team's other goal on the weekend.
Junior forward Tricia Wiles tallied an assist against South Florida and leads the team with 19 points (eight goals, three assists) on the season. Adams (six goals, two assists) and McReynolds (five goals, three assists) follow with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Sophomore keeper Leslie Schoeplein picked up eight saves in the team's last two matches and now has 49 for the season.
With three matches left on the schedule, the Lady Eagles are fighting to claim one of the eight spots in the Conference USA Postseason Tournament. The team is currently tied with Louisville and Memphis for 10th place in the conference.
The Lady Cougars are coming off a 3-0 non-conference win over Southwest Texas State. Laura Repp leads the team with four goals, while keeper Robin Cate has 91 saves.
TCU fell, 2-1, against Memphis. Nicole Carman and Laura Greenberg lead the team with 14 points each. Keepers Shannon Wagner and Adrianne Labovitz have combined for 79 saves.
