Abigail Evans joined the Southern Miss women's golf program as its graduate assistant in January 2019.
Evans, a native of Rainham, Kent in England, played collegiately at East Tennessee State for one year before transferring to Lincoln Memorial University, where she had a highly decorated career. She earned Academic All-American honors her junior and senior years. She compiled a pair of top-five finishes and six in the top-10 in her three years at LMU. Her senior year, Evans was the top finisher for her team in conference, making the All-Tournament Second Team. Her career-best for 18 holes was a 1-under 71 at the Leann Noble Tournament in Georgia as a junior. For 36 holes, her career-best came her senior year at the Cumberland Gap Trails in Ohio, finishing 7-over 151.
Her first spring on the coaching circuit involved working with all-time Southern Miss great Valentina Haupt, who in June 2020 earned an LPGA exemption thanks to her strong finish at the Energy Producers, Inc. Texas Women's Open, becoming the first in program history to clinch a spot on the game's highest stage.
Evans earned her bachelor's of science degree in psychology, graduating Cum Laude. She first picked up a golf club at two-and-a-half years old. She was on two England training squads as a junior golfer, once at 13 and another from 17-18. She comes from a family of golfers as well, both her sister and her father are golfers who played to a high standard. Her sister, Sian, played at East Tennessee State and recently received her Tour Card for the Ladies European Tour (LET).Â
Evans is currently pursuing her master's in sport management at Southern Miss.
