Chris Clapton (MHSc, ATC, LAT, PES, GTS) came to Southern Miss as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in August of 2018.
He works primarily with the men's basketball program. His responsibilities include the day-to-day healthcare of the student athletes. He also supervises the volleyball and beach volleyball athletic training graduate assistants. Clapton is responsible for the budget and inventory of Reed Green and the Volleyball Facility for Athletic Training, and oversees facility maintenance. He also serves as the preceptor for the USM AT Program.
Prior to Southern Miss, Clapton served as the Head Athletic Trainer/Fueler for Richard Childress Racing from 2016-2018. From 2014-16, he served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the track and field as well as the swim and dive programs at George Mason University. Clapton was the Intern Athletic Trainer for women's soccer at Charlotte from 2010-2014, and worked as the Battalion Athletic Trainer for the United States Army at the University of South Carolina from 2008-2010.
The Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina native earned his Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2008. He then earned his Master's in Health Science in 2014 from Nova Southeastern University.
Clapton has his certifications as a Graston Technique Specialist and a National Academy of Sports Medicine Performance Enhancement Specialist.
