Collin Cargill begins his fifth season Southern Miss baseball coach Scott Berry as Director of Baseball Operations.
Cargill’s duties will include organizing the team’s travel, fundraising and serving as the program’s liaison with its booster club, “The Dugout Club” as well as assisting in all Golden Eagle camps and on-campus recruiting.
The Hattiesburg, Miss., native lettered for the Golden Eagles from 2008-11 and holds a share of the school record for career saves with 30. Cargill was a member of the 2009 College World Series squad and played in four consecutive regionals during his tenure.
After being chosen in the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Draft in the 22nd round by the Miami Marlins, Cargill played four seasons in the organization making it as high as Triple A. In those four seasons, he posted a combined 13-5 record with five saves in 143 games pitched in relief over 189 2/3 innings pitched, while also tallying 116 strikeouts.
He joined the program after spending the last previous years working with 59 Baseball, an area travel baseball team.
Cargill is married to the former Ashley Peterman. The couple have a daughter named Addison Kate.
