Harrand leads Southern Miss to runner-up finish in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Southern Miss claims second place as Aiden Harrand paces the Golden Eagles with a top 10 performance in the women's 6,000-meter race at Apalachee Regional Park on Friday morning.
Florida State took the team title with an average time of 21 minutes, 0.5 seconds and a near sweep of the top five, split only by Maddie Scheier of Miami University, who took fourth. The Seminoles had 10 runners in the top 30, seven of whom were in the top 15. Rylee Blade of FSU led the race, posting a final time of 20 minutes, 39.2 seconds.
Southern Miss earned second with an average time of 22 minutes, 14.3 seconds and was led by Harrand's 21:37.5 time, good for eighth place. Corinne Croy trailed just behind Harrand, setting a 21:49.1 mark, good for 13th place. Addison Rainey finished in 22nd place (22:13.7) with Cadence Lapp following close behind, coming in at 31st place (22:31.9). Rounding out team scoring, Lexi Cooper posted a mark of 22:59.7, good for 52nd place.
All nine Southern Miss runners finished the event with Presley Miller and Indy Grajalez finishing back-to-back in 94th and 95th place, respectively. Miller clocked in at 23:50.8 and Grajalez followed suit with a 23:53.9. Olivia Smith posted a 24:06.1 and Hayley Detema posted a 24:07.8, good for 108th and 109th place.
A total of 247 runners completed the meet with 28 teams competing. Southern Miss bested Miami, Florida Atlantic and Embry-Riddle, all of which finished in the top five. Florida Gulf Coast, Florida Southern, Palm Beach Atlantic, FIU and Alabama-Huntsville rounded out the top 10.

Southern Miss has two weeks off before heading to Fayetteville, Ark., for the 38th annual Chile Pepper Festival at Agri Park on Oct. 3. The race starts at 11 a.m. Race proceeds are distributed to Arkansas high school cross-country programs throughout northwest Arkansas.
