Sun Belt Regular Season Champion Opens Baseball League Tournament Play Wednesday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team, fresh off winning its first Sun Belt Conference regular season title in its four-year history, goes after the program's third postseason SBC tournament crown this week starting Wednesday at 4 p.m., from DABOS Park in Montgomery, Ala.
The Golden Eagles (40-14 overall, 22-8 Sun Belt) will play the lowest remaining seed from Tuesday's first-round contests featuring No. 7 Louisiana and No. 10 Marshall, along with No. 9 Georgia State versus No. 8 Old Dominion.
In three seasons at this event, the Golden Eagles have posted an 11-2 record, capturing the postseason championship in both the 2023 and 2024 events.
Southern Miss heads into the event with a current nine-game winning streak and have won 15 of their last 17 contests.
In the three-game sweep of Georgia Southern last weekend, the Golden Eagles outscored the Eagles 35-4 in the three games. The Golden Eagles hit .402 with 12 doubles and eight home runs over the weekend. The Golden Eagles pitching staff posted a 0.75 ERA and fanned 35 with no walks, while limiting the Eagles to a .165 batting average.
In the team's 11-0, eight-inning victory on Saturday, it marked the 40th win this season. It marked the second-straight year the Golden Eagles reached that plateau during the regular season. Southern Miss also reached the 40-win mark for the 10th consecutive season
This will be the 44th conference tournament appearance for the Golden Eagles and they have compiled a 92-69 record overall in three different leagues – the Metro Conference (1983-95), Conference USA (1996-2022) and Sun Belt Conference (2023-Present). Southern Miss has won at least one game in each of the last 39 seasons.
Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year Grayden Harris (8-1) will get the nod for the Golden Eagles in the opening game on Wednesday.
