Drey Barrett Earns Sun Belt Baseball Player of the Week Honors

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss sophomore third baseman Drey Barrett (Holtville, Ala.) earned Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honors in an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.
In three games last week, Barrett hit .556 (5-for-9) with a double, two home runs and seven RBI. He finished with a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.333 slugging percentage in a sweep of Georgia Southern as the Golden Eagles captured the Sun Belt Conference regular season title.
In the opening game of the series, Barrett went 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBI, including a two-run homer. In the middle game, went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI and, in the finale, he finished with a 1-for-3 day, homering in the first inning and driving in two runs with that blast.
He has now hit safely in seven-straight games and has seen his average rise to .294 as he is hitting .440 over his current hitting streak (11-for-25).
This is the first weekly honor for Barrett in his career and third Sun Belt Player of the Week accolade for the Golden Eagles this season.
Southern Miss now sets their sights on the Sun Belt Tournament as they open play Wednesday at DABOS Park in Montgomery. They will play at 4 p.m., against either Old Dominion, Georgia Stata or Marshall.
