Men’s Golf Tied for Second with Play Suspended in Third Round of Sun Belt Championship

MADISON, Miss — Southern Miss men's golf rose to a tie for second place, scoring 7-under on day three of the Sun Belt Championship, with Jake Moffitt set to play his remaining nine holes at 7:00 a.m., after play was suspended due to darkness following a long weather delay.
Benjamin Fernandez carded the lowest score thus far in round three with a 5-under 67 moving up to a tie for third at the event. The junior carded six birdies to move into a tie for second in birdies with 14.
Supakorn Amornchaichan and Walker Wise both finish the round in the red with the pair scoring a 1-under 71. Wise recorded an eagle on hole seven, a par-5 spanning 556 yards, to finish the round in the red while recording 12 pars. Amornchaichan notched four birdies and 11 pars, recording two birdies on par-4 and two on par-5 holes.
Southern Miss is sitting at 7-under, with Moffitt having nine holes left to play, moving up to a tie for second with No. 45 Arkansas State. Coastal Carolina sits atop the leaderboard, just three strokes ahead of the Golden Eagles. James Madison falls to fourth and South Alabama, one stroke behind JMU, round out the top five.
Moffitt, through the front nine, is even 36 slated to tee off at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow morning before the semifinals start at 10 a.m. Matthew Javier picked up a 3-over 75 with 13 pars and one birdie.
The final round continues at 7:00 a.m. on April 30, with the top four teams of the event advancing in the Sun Belt Championship. Concluding the final round of stroke play, the format moves to match play. In the event the third round is not completed by 10 a.m., the semifinals for match play will be canceled and the top two teams advance.
