Men's Golf Opens Sun Belt Championships with Top-Three Finish

MADISON, Miss. – Southern Miss men's golf finished round one at the Sun Belt Championships in third place with an even 288 at the Annandale Golf Club on Monday afternoon.
Benjamin Fernandez carded a 3-under 69, ranking tied for second, with five birdies to conclude the first round and lead the Golden Eagles to an even finish on the day.
Supakorn Amornchaichan recorded an eagle on the last hole of his afternoon to have a trio of Golden Eagles finish 1-over 73 to conclude round one tied for 24th. Joining Amornchaichan are Matthew Javier and Jake Moffitt, who combined for seven birdies. Moffitt was tied for fourth in birdies after recording five, matching teammate Fernandez.
Southern Miss shot an even 288 in the first round of the Sun Belt Championship to notch a top-three finish. Coastal Carolina holds first place with a 6-under 282, and No. 45 Arkansas State in second, just two strokes shy, with a 4-under 284. South Alabama ended in fourth place with a 1-over 289, followed by James Madison at 2-over 290, rounding out the top five.
Walker Wise held a top 30 spot at the event with a 2-over 74, tallying two birdies on a par-5 and a par-4. The redshirt junior and sophomore Javier are tied in seventh place for pars with 13.
