Senior Day Victory Keeps Golden Eagles Undefeated at Home

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men's tennis (6-5) stayed perfect at home on Friday afternoon, outlasting Omaha (4-8) 4-3 at the USM Tennis Complex in a Senior Day victory. The win capped an unbeaten home slate for Southern Miss and gave the program a hard fought finish in its final match in Hattiesburg this spring.
Omaha claimed the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Anthony Scheglowski and Liam Spiers defeated Saheb Sodhi and Eric Perkowski 7-6 on court two, while Ethan Gaubert and Bryan Kuntz topped Jose Murariu and Matei Varbanciu 6-1 at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 match between Kale Mize and Jay Temming and Omaha's Kristian Thomas and Pavan Uppu was left unfinished with Southern Miss leading 6-5.
Southern Miss answered in singles with four wins across the lineup. Jose Murariu earned a straight set victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Christian Trevey 6-2, 6-3, and Sodhi followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Liam Spiers on court three to give the Golden Eagles their first lead of the day. Ritabrata Sarkar added another point at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Kaden Taylor.
With the match tied late, Olle Noltorp delivered the clincher on court four. After dropping the opening set in a tiebreak, Noltorp rallied past Pavan Uppu 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 to seal the 4-3 team victory for Southern Miss.
Omaha also picked up singles wins from Bryan Kuntz at No. 1 and Maddox Lundell at No. 5. Kuntz defeated Mize 6-1, 5-7, 6-0, while Lundell earned a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Perkowski.
Friday's match served as Senior Day for Southern Miss, which honored Sodhi and Perkowski before first serve. The Golden Eagles now head back on the road for matches at UIW on March 16 and UTSA on March 17.
