Cameron, Nichols and Ward head to NCAA Indoor Championships

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Track and Field is set to send Sun Belt Shot Put Champion Piers Cameron, along with long jumpers Tyler Nichols and DeAundre Ward to the NCAA Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday. The Championships will take place in Fayetteville, Arkansas at the Randal Tyson Center.
Cameron finished the season undefeated in the shot put, winning the title at every meet where the Golden Eagles competed through the entirety of the indoor season. Cameron's school-record throw of 19.68 meters punched his ticket to the national stage, where he will compete on Saturday at 1 p.m. CST.
Nichols, who secured third place in the Sun Belt Indoor Championships, landed his career high with a mark of 7.90 meters at the Music City Challenge to earn the 11th seed in the long jump finals. Ward, named Sun Belt Long Jump Champion, also notched his career high mark of 7.84 meters at the Music City Challenge to be placed in the 16th seed in the finals. Both athletes will be competing on Friday at 7:00 p.m. CST.
