HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men's tennis returns home on Friday, March 13, when the Golden Eagles host Omaha at 2 p.m. in Hattiesburg for Senior Day. Friday's match is the next contest on the Southern Miss schedule following the team's road trip to Baton Rouge.
Southern Miss enters the weekend after facing No. 6 LSU on the road, where Saheb Sodhi picked up a three-set singles win for the Golden Eagles at the No. 3 spot. Friday's matchup gives Southern Miss the chance to return to its home courts before heading back on the road next week for matches at UIW and UTSA.
Omaha comes to Hattiesburg as part of a weekend southern swing. The Mavericks' schedule lists Friday's match at Southern Miss before road stops at New Orleans and Nicholls State later in the trip.
Friday's match will also serve as a celebration of two Golden Eagle seniors in Saheb Sodhi and Eric Perkowski. Sodhi has been a key part of the Southern Miss lineup throughout his career, posting seven singles wins and eight doubles victories as a freshman before continuing to deliver important results this season, including recent singles wins against New Orleans, Norfolk State, Alcorn State and No. 6 LSU. Perkowski, a graduate transfer from Dayton, has provided veteran leadership and consistency while helping strengthen the doubles lineup throughout the season. Alongside Sodhi, he has helped form one of Southern Miss' most reliable doubles pairings and has made an immediate impact in his lone season in black and gold.
The Southern Miss roster for the match includes Eric Perkowski, Saheb Sodhi, Olle Noltorp, Ritabrata Sarkar, Jay Temming, Kale Mize, Jose Murariu, Matei Varbanciu and Rasmus Becker, with Zubin Engineer leading the program and Nicolas Simkin serving on staff.
First serve is set for 2 p.m. on Friday in Hattiesburg.
