Left-Hander Grayden Harris Earns Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week Honors

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss sophomore left-handed pitcher Grayden Harris (Central, La.) collected Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week honors Tuesday after an outstanding performance last Saturday in a 6-1 victory over North Alabama.
Harris' performance included a career-high seven innings to go along with a career-best 13 strikeouts and only one walk as he gave up three hits. He surrendered just a one-out, first inning single and then had a runner reach base in the second on a fielding error but was quickly erased with an inning-ending double play.
That double play started a string of Harris retiring 15 batters in a row, before giving up his lone run in the seventh on a walk and two hits. He struck out the side twice in the contest and had at least two strikeouts in an inning five times.
On the season, Harris improved his record to 3-0 to go along with a 3.00 ERA, tying for the team lead in wins while holds the most strikeouts on the club with 30 this season in 21 innings of work.
This is his first Sun Belt weekly honor. He joins teammate Joey Urban to earn a weekly award, having captured the league's Player of the Week award twice this season.
The Golden Eagles return to action tonight as they play host to Ole Miss in a 6 p.m., contest at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. The game concludes a six-game homestand for Southern Miss.
