HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss senior pitchers Colby Allen (Louisville, Miss.) and Kros Sivley (Sumrall, Miss.) were each named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America teams.
Allen earned a first-team nod, while Sivley was chosen to the third team. Both players were selected as relief pitchers.
Allen, who was also picked a preseason All-America selection by Perfect Game as well as a preseason All-Sun Belt by the league's coaches, returns for his senior campaign after appearing in 29 games with two starts and posted a 7-4 record with 12 saves and a 3.63 ERA last season. Those numbers included 77 strikeouts and only 17 walks in 67 innings of work. His save total ranked No. 10 nationally, while his total appearances were No. 22 in the country. His season saves total also tied for fifth best at the school, while his 19 career saves hold a No. 7 ranking at Southern Miss.
He earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors last spring, while also collecting ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region first team as was a NCBWA third-team All-American.
Sivley posted a 7-1 record by appearing in 22 games, including eight starts last spring. His first eight appearances came as a starter, before he transitioned into the bullpen where he fanned 58 and walked 20 over 71 2/3 innings. He made his season debut as a starter, throwing five innings in a no decision against Lafayette, fanning eight and walking just one while allowing a pair of runs. Sivley then followed that outing with a career-high nine strikeouts versus Louisiana Tech in the opening game of a doubleheader, getting a win over the Bulldogs in a six-inning stint.
Sivley, who ranks tied for eighth on the school career chart for most appearances with 73, also won on the road at TCU with a seven-inning start, giving up a lone run on five hits with two walks and a strikeout. After transitioning into his relief role, Sivley won five times coming out of the pen, including a 4 2/3 performance at Troy in which he did not allow a run on a hit with two walks and five strikeouts. He did not walk more than two batters in any outing during the year.
The Golden Eagles open the season at home next Friday, Feb. 13, against UC Santa Barbara at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. Game time is set for 4 p.m. The game can be seen on ESPN+ as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
