HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men's tennis closed a three-match stretch with a 4-0 home win over Alcorn State on Tuesday afternoon after competing in a pair of neutral-site matches in Tallahassee over the weekend.
Southern Miss opened the weekend on Saturday against Jacksonville State. The Golden Eagles grabbed the doubles point to take the early edge, then got a big three-set win from Jose Murariu in singles as he battled through a momentum swing to finish it off. Southern Miss continued to fight across the lineup, but Jacksonville State claimed the remaining points to take the match, 4-2.
On Sunday, Southern Miss faced Florida State. The Seminoles secured the doubles point and followed with enough singles points to clinch a 4-0 decision, but the Golden Eagles stayed engaged throughout singles play and gained valuable reps against a strong opponent.
Back in Hattiesburg on Tuesday, Southern Miss responded with its best all-around performance of the stretch, sweeping Alcorn State 4-0. The Golden Eagles set the tone in doubles and carried that momentum straight into singles, taking care of business to finish the week with a clean home win.
Next up: Southern Miss hosts New Orleans on Friday, Feb. 27 at 2:00 PM, then welcomes Norfolk State on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1:00 PM in Hattiesburg, Miss.
