Binet Earns Sun Belt Player of the Week After Massive Weekend

NEW ORLEANS -- Southern Miss graduate forward Djahi Binet was named Sun Belt Player of the Week, as released by the conference office on Tuesday.Â
Binet started his week with a 31-point, 15-rebound game at Marshall on Wednesday night. His performance made him the first Sun Belt player this season to post at least 30 points and 15 rebounds in a single game. Dating back to last season, Binet is one of three Sun Belt players to reach that feat — former Golden Eagle Denijay Harris is one of the other two players to do so. Binet also added two assists, two steals, and two blocks against the Thundering Herd.Â
The Nice, France product helped Southern Miss to a win over Kent State on Saturday with 17 points and seven rebounds. That brought his scoring average to 24.0 points and his rebounding average to 11.0 for the week. Binet had one block in the MAC-SBC Challenge win to bring his season total to a team-high 25. He is now averaging 10.8 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game. In Sun Belt play, Binet is averaging 12.8 points and 9.4 rebounds.Â
Binet joins Tylik Weeks as the only Golden Eagles to be named Sun Belt Player of the Week this season. Weeks earned the honor on Nov. 25 after being named MVP of the Pensacola Invitational. Overall, Binet is the seventh Southern Miss player to be named Sun Belt Player of the Week.Â
Southern Miss starts a four-game homestand on Thursday night against South Alabama. The two rivals will square off at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN+. The Golden Eagles then host Troy on Super Saturday at 7:30 p.m.Â
