Van Gaalen Paces Golden Eagles in Opening Round of the Ally

WEST POINT, Miss. — Savannah Van Gaalen carded a one-over 73 to lead Southern Miss on Monday in the opening round of The Ally, helping the Golden Eagles to a tie for 14th at 16-over at Old Waverly Golf Club.

Savannah Van Gaalen turned in the low round of the day for the black and gold, sitting tied for 23rd individually. She made a birdie on the par-4 sixth and played a bogey-free back nine, going even-par 36 on the inside. Van Gaalen also made 15 pars on the day, tied for second-most in the field.

Louise Cuyvers followed with a two-over 74 to sit tied for 31st. Cuyvers made four birdies in the round, including one on the par-5 second and another on the par-5 ninth, and went even-par 36 on the front nine.

Liv Romer shot a five-over 77 and is tied for 61st. Morgan Guepet and Chloe Stevenazzi each posted an eight-over 80 and are tied for 77th. Competing as an individual, Ava Bates shot a four-over 76 to sit tied for 50th.

Ole Miss leads the team race at seven-under, followed by host Mississippi State at three-under and Augusta at one-under. Southern Miss is tied with James Madison and ULM at 16-over, one shot behind Jax State and three shots ahead of Lipscomb.
